Donald "Don" LeRoy Homstad

Donald LeRoy Homstad "Don", 79, passed away February 10, 2019 at his home in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his family.

Don was born December 14, 1939 in Mayville, ND to Milton Homstad and Luella (Tobaison) Homstad. Don was a full-blooded Norwegian - his favorite saying was “You can tell a Norwegian, but you can’t tell him much”, which described him perfectly. He was passionate, kind, and had a great sense of humor. He had a zest for life and especially loved spending time with his grand-children. He had an artistic hand and enjoyed drawing, painting, and putting together model airplanes and ships. His pride was being able to fly an airplane and he actually worked for a short time building them when he was employed by Boeing Company, building planes 1-200 for the 747 program in Seattle, WA. He later returned to the Grand Forks area, where he owned and operated Tri-Steel Manufacturing prior to his retirement.  Don was a great man, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children: Tom Homstad (Trina), Castle Rock, CO, Lorri Haug (Greg), Bismark, ND, Kathy Homstad, Grand Forks, ND, John Homstad (Stephanie), Grand Forks, ND, Julie Hegland (Rob), Grand Forks, ND, Suzy Weber (Matt), Grand Forks, ND, Michelle Homstad, Grand Forks, ND, along with fifteen (15) grandchildren and four (4) great-grandchildren, and his brother: Richard Homstad (Jan), Grand Forks, ND.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Luella Homstad, and his uncle, Richard "Bud" Homstad.

Don wanted everyone to know just for the record:  "I've only been wrong once in my life, that's when I thought I was wrong, but I was right."

There will a Celebration of Life gathering honoring Don at Amundson Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a short service at 11:00 a.m.
