Alan Alfred Abraham

Alan A. Abraham, 76, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Altru Hospital.

Alan A. Abraham of Buckeye (Verrado), AZ and formerly of Grand Forks, ND was born on March 7th, 1946 in Duluth, MN, to Arden L. Abraham (Claremont, SD) and Verona E. Glaeser Abraham (Gibbon, MN). Alan attended primary schools in Duluth and graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN.

While attending the University of North Dakota, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was initially assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY for basic training. He was then stationed at the Americal Division Headquarters in Chu Lai, Vietnam. After his tenure in Vietnam, he was stationed at the 5th Army Headquarters at Ft. Sheridan and attained the rank of Specialist 5. He worked for the General Command Staff and was responsible for implementing and administrating the Army’s Pro Pay testing system (SDAP) and received an honorable discharge in 1970. Alan then started working for American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks, MN, where he worked for 35 years before retiring. Alan was contracted with American Crystal Sugar after his retirement as a consultant for the company, which he did for the next 5 years. Alan also obtained his real estate license and sold real estate for Scholler Real Estate Company in the 70’s.

Alan was happiest at the family lake home on Union Lake, on a water ski, biking, working on numerous projects, and enjoying sunsets around the fire pit with family and friends. Alan has been a past or current member of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Mayflower Society, the National Association of Realtors, the Grand Forks Board of Realtors, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Duluth, MN. Alan, as a single parent, was proudest of his children, who inherited from him a strong work ethic, the gift of unconditional love and respect for others, and a willingness to try new adventures.

Alan is survived by his wife Danette, daughter Tonia (Trent) Litchy of Phoenix, AZ, son Brian (Heather) Abraham of Verrado, AZ and Bryan (Janelle) Kuntz of Grand Forks, ND, twin sister Alane Chase of Eagan, MN, sister Ann Abraham of Duluth, MN, and grandchildren Annabelle, Colin and Lauren of Verrado, AZ.

A private memorial inurnment service will be held at a later date.
