Alan Reed

Alan (Al) J. Reed, 71 years young, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, made his journey to the Lord Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his winter home in Fort Mohave, AZ. At time of death, he was with his spouse, Margaret Reed and Daughter, Shannon Reed.  Al was born on July 26, 1951 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas and Dorothy (Langkamp) Reed. He grew up in Platteville, Wisconsin and attended school there.   He was united in marriage, to Margaret Reed, on November 9, 1973 in Grand Forks, ND.

Al retired from the United States Postal Service after approximately 30 years of service.  He served in the Air Force for 8 years and in North Dakota National Guard.  After retirement, he worked for a time  with his wife, son and daughter at Altru health systems, as a greeter.  Al enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, watching sporting events and old movies, he was an avid chess player and enjoyed studying chess, relaxing by the pool, and playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid teaser, with his family and close friends and a tender soul. He was a lifelong  fan of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs . Al is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Kenna Reed; Two children, Shane (Tyroniesha) Reed of Fargo, ND and Shannon Reed (Fedd Coleman)Fort Mohave, Az.; two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Gabriel; Seven brothers and sisters, Michael (Sandi) Reed of Rosco, IL; Catherine (Michael) Pond of Madison, WI; Janet Pariza of St. Charles, IL; Terry (Barbara) Reed of Edgerton, WI; Sharon (Fred) Peska of Springville TN; Kevin (Susan) Reed of Platteville, WI; and Dennis (Barbara) Reed of Madison, WI; and many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his wife's brother Patrick (Helen Sherlock) Kenna of Irvine, CA and Kate (Bruce Melin) Kenna of Grand Forks, ND whom he considered his own dear family. Al leaves behind a legacy and memories to many others including his network of friends, golf pals and the McDermott boys!

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Reed; his wife's parents, Robert and Evelyn Kenna, Grandchild Elijah, one brother Thomas Reed, Jr and Sister-in-Law Roberta Kenna.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.   The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Valley Senior Living Foundation, in memory of Alan J Reed.
