Bette Nagle Stout

Bette (Nagle) Stout, 91, formerly of Manvel, ND, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Valley Senior Living on 42nd Woodside Village Prairieview in Grand Forks, ND.

Bette was born Mary Elizabeth Nagle on June 23, 1929, in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Edward & Bessie (Page) Nagle.   She grew up in Manvel, ND, and graduated from St. James High School in Grand Forks. She attended business college for one year in Mankato, MN. 

On September 2, 1948, she was married to Walter Olmstead.  Together they raised 2 boys and 1 girl.  Walter farmed in Manvel until his death in 1964. Bette worked for three years at the Gordon Caldis firm in Grand Forks.

In 1969, Bette and her children moved to Fortuna, CA, where she worked as a legal secretary and later as a paralegal for various law firms.   On September 9, 1971, Bette married Clifford Stout.  After they both retired, they moved Magalia, CA.   They enjoyed RV camping, entertaining friends and traveling. In 2008, they returned to Manvel to live.  Clifford died in 2009.

While in Manvel, Bette enjoyed spending time at the Manvel Senior Center and playing cards both there and at home with friends.  In 2015, she moved to Parkwood Senior Living in Grand Forks, and in 2019, she moved to Valley Senior Living where she spent the remainder of her life.

Bette Stout is survived by her son, Kelly (Patty) Olmstead; stepson, Jan (Cindy) Stout, stepdaughters, Bonnie (Ron) Ankewiecz and Sandra Lee; brothers, Dennis (Ruth) Nagle and Thomas Nagle along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter & Clifford; son, David Olmstead; daughter, Mary Beth Aubuchon; brothers, Richard and Robert; sister, Ramona Callahan; nephew, Timothy Callahan; daughter-in-law, Joey Olmstead and Connie Olmstead.

The family would like to thank the staff of Woodside Village Prairieview for their excellent care and compassion given to Bette throughout her stay there.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Manvel, ND, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. in the church.

Interment: St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery, Manvel, ND.
