Bruce A. Tufte

Bruce A. Tufte, 74, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Bruce Allen Tufte, was born July 14, 1947 to Obert & Lauretta (Salaba) Tufte.  He attended Catholic grade school, 3 years at St. James High School and graduated from Central High School in 1965.  He entered the US Navy at 17 and served on board the USS Fox which included Vietnam.  Upon return, he married Carmen Krogstad in August of 1968.  He started a 41 year career as a pressman at the Grand Forks Herald. 

He enjoyed his time golfing, fishing, playing softball, walking and spending time with his family.  Bruce served in many capacities at the area community credit union, also on the board of the local trades and labor union, and was a lifetime member of the VFW 1874 and 3817.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen. Along with their 3 daughters, Carol Tufte (Jamie Toutenhoofd) Grand Forks ND, Karen Whatmough (Timothy), Tracy CA, Lynn Frothinger (Jared), Eagle ID.

Grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Jacob, Cole, Luke, Grant, Allister, Harrison, Morgan, Tanner, Emma, Dylan.  A sister, Susan Becker.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy Chalmers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. 

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors Team, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3817 and the American Legion Post #157.
