Carol Jean (Iverson) Sonnenberg, 64, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at her home in East Grand Forks, MN.

Carol was born on March 21, 1956, in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Donald & BernaDene (Montgomery) Iverson. She grew up in Grand Forks until 1972. Her family then moved to Thompson, where she graduated from in 1974.

Carol married Alan Sonnenberg on Nov. 22, 1975. They lived in Grand Forks and had 2 children, Mary Jo and Mark.

She worked various jobs which included housekeeping at United Hospital, an optometrist assistant, a bartender at the EGF Legion, VFW, and most recently Denny’s Tavern where she worked alongside and served many wonderful people who became her friends.

Carol enjoyed sewing (especially with her Mom, Tinky), cooking, baking, canning, gardening, bingo, trips to the casino and spending time at Golden Lake with family. She also dearly loved her Grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by her children, Mary Jo (John) Richards, Mark (Carissa) Sonnenberg all of Grand Forks; brother, Rick Iverson of New Rockford, ND; sister, Jeannie Strande of Grand Forks; step siblings Craig McEnelly and Deanne Gifford; and 5 grandchildren, Ariana, Shaley, Justin, Alexis and Avery as well as many other beloved family members.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Donald Iverson and his wife Janice; mother, BernaDene Iverson and her companion, Shorty Narlock; sisters, Linda Hoverson and Vicky Sauerwein; niece, Suzanne Hoverson; nephew, Josh Iverson and an infant nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Altru Cancer Center or HRRV.

**Due to COVID-19 concerns, masks and social distancing are required during the visitation and service.

Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 12 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Amundsons.

Inurnment: At a later date, Middle Grove Cemetery, Manvel, ND.
