Carole Dianne Hagness (Evanson) passed away on April 12, 2026, in Mesa, AZ. Carole was born on June 15, 1939, in East Grand Forks, MN to the parents of Palmer (Percy) and Lilian Evanson and is survived by her husband of 33 years Tom Hagness, Johanna Theige (sister), Donna Jacobson (sister), Jenny Swanberg (daughter), Caren Helgeson (daughter), Gayle Helgeson (daughter), Tammi Hoeger (stepdaughter), Todd Hagness (stepson), Travis Hagness (stepson), 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Carole was preceded in death by both parents, sisters Betty (McGowan), Lois (McGarry), Linda (Stauss), Kathy (Bolstad), brothers Paul Evanson and John Evanson and son Eric Helgeson.
Carole graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1957, married Loren Helgeson in 1961 and had four children. Carole opened a home daycare in 1976 and spent many years lovingly caring for dozens of children in Grand Forks. Carole loved having coffee with friends and family, making bars and cookies, playing cards, dice and bingo and watching her favorite game shows. Carole loved cheering on her children and grandchildren at sporting events, watching UND hockey and the Minnesota Twins.
Carole married Tom Hagness in 1993 and spent her remaining years with him enjoying cruises, traveling to new places and later being snowbirds in Arizona where she continued to enjoy getting together with friends to play bingo, cards and cheer on the Fighting Sioux. Carole and Tom loved to visit children and grandchildren, her favorite grand dog Dax and go back to Grand Forks to spend summers with family and friends. Carole was loved and will be missed by many.
A service to remember and celebrate Carole’s life will be held at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND on Saturday May 2, 2026, at 2pm. Visitation with the family will be held an hour prior to services.
