Carolyn Bergit Flom

Carolyn B. (Smestad) Flom, 78, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 21, 2023.  

Carolyn Bergit Smestad was born on July 31, 1945, in Gulfport, MS, to Carl and Bernice (Kvamme) Smestad.  She grew up in Grand Forks, ND and graduated from Central High School.  Carolyn married the love of her life, Terrance J. Flom, on August 3, 1963.  They enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage.  

Carolyn and Terrance had two children, Brad Flom and Brenda (Flom) Sweeney, 5 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She loved spending time with family and friends.   

Carolyn worked as a medical secretary at the Grand Forks Clinic for over 30 years before her retirement in 2008.  She enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing. She joined a quilter’s guild after her retirement where she made fabulous life-long friends.  Carolyn was a blue-ribbon quilter. Carolyn was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was very active in many different areas of the church.  

Carolyn is survived by her husband Terrance, her children Brad Flom of Warren, MN; Brenda (Mike) Sweeney of Eden Prairie, MN; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Randy Smestad and many nieces and nephews. 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bernice Smestad, her sister Grace Schaefer, and sister-in-law Dorothy Smestad.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 319 S 5th St. Grand Forks, ND 58201.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
