Clayton "Butch" Olson

Clayton Lloyd Olson was born to Lloyd Ingerd and Viola Mae (Larson) Olson in Grafton, ND on November 12, 1942. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church located in St. Thomas, ND. He attended and graduated St, Thomas High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served with the United States Naval Construction Battalions or more commonly known as “Seabees”. He was honorably discharged in 1963, after three years of service. Butch continued to be patriotic and was proud of his service in the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the United States Navy, he enrolled in Aakers Business College and graduated after two years. He married his soul mate, Patti Lynette Stenerson on June 28, 1969. To this union, two children were born, Thomas and Shannon. He and his family are longtime members of Augustana Lutheran Church, becoming a member in 1971. He had worked for Melland Trucking for a few years but spent over 40 years as an office manager for Mikkelson Consolidated/Fritz Building Company and the Gallery Apartments. Butch is survived by his children: Thomas Olson of Scottsdale, AZ and Shannon Olson of Grand Forks, ND; companion of four years, Judy McDonald of Grand Forks, ND; four grand children: Abigail, Alexis and Reed Olson; sister, Janice Way of Glendale, AZ; brother, Ron Olson of St. Thomas, ND; and sister, Marjy Luger of Phoenix, AZ; brother in law, Randy Stenerson and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patti Olson; parents: Lloyd and Viola Olson; sibling, Baby Olson; mother and father-in-law: Harlen and Ardell Stenerson; sister-in-law, Peggy Jerome; daughter-in-law, Melissa (Sullivan) Olson; two brothers-in-law, William (Bill) Way and Stanley Jerome. A Memorial Service will be held at Amundson Funeral Home on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 11:00am with Pastor Jo Gast officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at Amundson Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place following the service at Hoff Lutheran Cemetery near Lankin, ND.
