Clyde Dennis Soderberg, 78, of Buxton, ND, died unexpectedly Friday, December 15, 2023 in Grand Forks, ND.

Clyde was born in Mayville, North Dakota, the son of late Joseph and Esther (Svaleson) Soderberg. He attended school at Buxton, ND.  Because Central Valley Public School near Buxton was still under construction, Clyde graduated from high school at Climax, MN in 1963. Afterwards, he was accepted into the Air Force ROTC program and attended the University of North Dakota. He graduated on May 2nd, 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He became a commissioned officer in the Air Force where he proudly served his country. He was called to serve in the Vietnam war, where he utilized his degree with the 20th Special Operations Squadron to the benefit of his country.

Clyde was fiercely proud of serving his nation. Upon returning from overseas, he was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base as one of the “Minutemen” at the Missile Command Center. There he served until 1972 when at the rank of Captain, he decommissioned out of the Air Force to take over the family farm from his ailing father.

Clyde met and married Carol (Rodne) Soderberg in Mayville, June 30, 1973, and they raised their family on Adolf Soderberg’s homestead, going back to the late 1800’s.

Clyde loved many things, but most importantly were his family and friends. He loved being able to help anyone who needed it and was a proud member of the Buxton community. He was a steward of the land, working long hours to raise a crop and provide for his family. He passed on his work ethic, family values, sense of humor and, yes, stubbornness onto his kids. He frequently had a story or anecdote for anyone who would listen, and always had time to grab a drink and be a sounding board to help find solutions. He will be missed by many, but his legacy lives on.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Carol (Rodne) Soderberg; his children: Kimberly (Mike) Pillman, Cincinnati, OH; Tobey (Jodi) Soderberg, Buxton ND; Travis (Angel) Soderberg, Buxton, ND; Jodi (Brady) Dyrdahl, Bagley, MN; Elicia (Lukas Lahlum) Soderberg, Kindred, ND. He is also survived by his aunt; Mildred Ramsfield, Fargo ND; siblings; Sander (Jean) Tureson, Greenbush, MN; Gary Soderberg, Rapid City, SD; Evie Fletcher, Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Vern Asheim

He is survived by grandchildren; Ryan (Kristen) Soderberg, Bryce Pillman, Nathanial and Maddy Dow, Braden and Brooklyn Soderberg, Carter and Remi Dyrdahl; great-grandchildren Travis, Layla, and Rowan Soderberg. He’s also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, uncles, numerous aunts, and siblings; Jean Tureson, Eleanor Jones; nephew Kevin Tureson, and sister-in-law, Diane Asheim.
