Darlyne "Dolly" M. Aamot, age 90, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at Elim Care Center in Fargo, North Dakota.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota with Pastor Jo Gast officiating. Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at Memorial Park North Cemetery in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Darlyne Mae Wright was born December 24, 1935, in Larimore, ND, to Earl and Alma (Routley) Wright. Dolly attended Country School in Polk County, Minnesota High School in Larimore, North Dakota and worked as a Nursing Aide at the hospital, and helped her friends with babysitting and cleaning during her early years. She loved to ice skate and go dancing. On March 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Richard “Dick” Aamot in Crookston, Minnesota. Embracing the life of a devoted Air Force wife, she and Richard journeyed together across the country and abroad, making homes at various Air Force Bases in Rapid City, SD, Bitburg, Germany; Minot, ND, and multiple stays in California while Richard attended Military training leaving her to “hold down the fort,” and finally settling in Grand Forks, ND in 1965. In 2001, they moved to West Fargo.
Dolly's radiant personality was truly unforgettable, her bubbly social spirit, determined heart, and the sparkle of her “million-dollar blue eyes” impacted everyone she met. She cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, always encouraging her loved ones to take pride in themselves. Dolly looked forward to getting her home ready for the holidays, often baking and cooking special meals and making sure to have enough homemade buns and desserts ready. She shared her joy and love of life with a bit of spice from her Irish heritage. In simpler moments, she kept busy by reading and tending to her garden. In her final years, she made her home at Fargo Elim dancing in the hallways, socializing, “everyone knew Dolly” sharing hugs and spreading her love while making a lasting impression with everyone.
Dolly is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Dave) Lundeen; son, David (Ellen) Aamot; daughter in-law Bonnie Aamot, 7 grandchildren, Christopher (Heather) Lundeen, Katie (John) Naughton, April (Dave) Nelson, Megan (Derek) Brewer, Natalie (Tyrell) Hamrum, Joseph (Miranda) Aamot, Jordan Aamot, 10 great-grandchildren, Brady, Rylan, Conner, Olivia, Chloe, Alora, Elise, Harrison, Elizabeth and Hendrick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Aamot; son, Richard E. Aamot; parents, Earl and Alma Wright; grandson, Chad Lundeen; stepbrother, Duane Haggerty; and parents-in-law, Art and Martha Aamot.
