Dean Nelson

 Dean Charles Nelson, age 85, passed away Oct 19, 2025 at his home in Emerado, ND. Dean was born on July 1, 1940 and is the son of Elmer and Mary (Mullan) Nelson. He was the youngest of four children. Dean attended grade school and high school in Emerado. He graduated in the class of 1958. After graduation he attended NDSU, Fargo and studied Agriculture Economics.

On June 23, 1961, Dean was united in marriage with Phyllis Evelyn Aaserude in Grand Forks, ND at the United Lutheran Church. Together they had 4 amazing children, Tamara Jane (Tammy), Teresa Lynn (Terry), Tracy DeeAnn, and Timothy Dean (Tim). They made their home on the family farm South of Emerado.

After finishing school he started farming with his Dad and spent the next 30 years raising crops. Dean started his real estate career with Fladland Real Estate. Later he became part of a group of realtors with First Realty and eventually retired from Real Estate. Dean and Phyllis also owned and operated Roma’s Pizza in Emerado for 13 years serving the area along with GFAFB.

After Roma’s Dean continued his passion for farming with his best friend Elwood Sauer's son, Brett, which he enjoyed up until this last spring. Dean enjoyed being part of the Lions Club for several years. Dean and Phyllis traveled, attending family events and spending time with their children and many grand and great grand children. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish with his friends and family. They spent a lot of time with family and friends at their cabins on Golden Lake and later on Devils Lake.

Dean is preceded in death by his father and mother (Elmer and Mary), his sister Margie Ougletree, sister Shirley Bjork and father-in-law and mother-in-law (Francis and Evelyn Aaserude).

Dean is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis, daughters Tammy (Kelly) Renfrow of Dickinson, ND, Terry (Dave) Holman of Philip, SD, Tracy (Chip) Turner of Heber, UT, and son Tim (Lisa) Nelson of Cashmere, WA, 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, and his brother Richard (Dick) of Emerado, ND, several nieces and nephews and and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM at Amundson Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A Committal Service will be held at the Emerado Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Service.
