Deb Kennedy-Embury age 70 of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Deb was born on May 6, 1955, to Kenneth and Colleen Kennedy. She was raised alongside her two brothers and three sisters in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1973. She attended Northland Community College.
Deb married Scott Weekley in 1979 and was blessed with three beautiful children Leslie, Shale and Casey. In June of 1990, she met the love of her life, Kevin Embury and they were married on July 22nd, 1992. She was again blessed with her youngest, wonderful daughter, Jade. In 1997 she became a grandmother and was proudly named “Grammy” by her grandsons Phynix and Zayden.
In her younger years, Deb valued being active, by playing softball, training in weightlifting, being part of a bowling league, fishing and deer hunting. She was admired for her cooking skills that somehow never required a recipe, and she did not show up to any event empty handed. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially at the family cabin on Maple Lake.
Deb will be remembered for her amazing sense of humor and ability to make any situation entertaining. She valued everyone she met and was gifted at making people feel comfortable. It was not surprising to see her dancing and singing, or dressing up in costumes to amuse others. Her infectious smile, laugh and jokes will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin Embury; daughters Leslie Weekley and Jade Embury (Travis Strandell); sisters Pam (Tim) Schwanz, Roxanne (Kevin) Baker, LoAnn Hirsch; brother David (Carol) Kennedy; grandson Zayden Saucedo; along with nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
In life, Deb unfortunately faced the loss of many she loved. She was reunited in heaven by her parents, Kenneth Kennedy and Colleen Hull, Marty Hull, her siblings Jim Kennedy and Kathie Kvasager; mother-in-law Ardis Embury; nephew Kyle Schwanz; her two sons Shale Weekley and Casey Weekley and her grandson Phynix Rodel.
