Grand Forks

DeLories M. Hughes, beloved mother, grandmother, and community member; passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 89 in St. Louis Park, MN. Born DeLories Marie Peterson on February 17, 1937, in Thief River Falls, MN she was a cherished daughter of Albin L. and Marie C. (Jablinski) Perterson. She grew up in Minnesota and graduated from East Grand forks High School with the Class of 1955, later pursuing further education in Minneapolis.

On February 22, 1958, DeLories married John A. Hughes and together they made their home in Grand Forks, ND. In 1971, they founded United Rental and Construction Co., which evolved in United Crane and Excavation. As the business manager, Delories was the cornerstone of their company’s success.

DeLories was a wonderful mom. There was never a dull moment raising three boys. Everything from baseball in the backyard, years of hockey and later overhauling cars in the driveway! She was so proud of the fathers her sons became. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved sharing stories about them. Her faith was the center of her life, and she always led by example.

DeLories and John cherished their time spent at their lake home on Island Lake and their home in Beaumont, CA. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, quilting, canning, sewing, and traveling to new places.

Though small in stature she possessed a heart larger than life. Her kindness, generosity and compassion touched everyone she met, and her warmth and love left a lasting impression on family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She leaves behind her children: Gregory (Cindy) of Grand Forks, ND and Steven (Cindy) of Medina, MN; daughter-in-law, Joline Hughes of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Brittany, Jared, Jonathan, Joshua, Julia, Carlie, Kaitlyn and Jacob; great grandchildren Ellie, Noah and Lyrah Hughes; bonus granddaughter Katie; great grandchildren: Adrianna, Scotty, Amaya, Aspen and Meelah; great great grand daughter Amira; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Marie; husband, John; son, Gary; brothers, Bob and Laverne; and sister, Rosie Charboneau.
