Dempsey “Garett” Stephens, age 44, of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his home in Grand Forks.
Dempsey Garett Stephens was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Stanley Stephens and Becky Gibson on March 11, 1981, until 1991, when he moved with his family to the Minot Air Force Base. In 2004, Garett met Becca Andrews in a Taco Johns parking lot, using his playfully charming nature, the pair developed a deep bond; together they were blessed with two children. In 2021, with the help of a long-time friend from childhood, Samie Thvedt, he settled in Grand Forks. Garett was a dedicated worker and had various careers; his favorite being Night Train Pizza, where he worked with his best friends Jim Whitebear, Travis, and Jobie Peters. When not working, he enjoyed spending time cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, Church, wrestling, raiding friends' fridges, and just hanging out with friends and family.
Garett was known for his lighthearted humor, animated storytelling, character acting, love of music, and being a great friend to all; he was a proud, loving father and had strong Christian faith that he was never ashamed to share. His down-to-earth, let-it-all-go spirit will be deeply missed.
Garett is survived by his children, Jessie and Jayson Stephens of ND; mother, Becky (Bill) Rule of AZ; father, Stanley (Ikumi) Stephens of AL; brother, Perry (Heather) Stephens of ND; sisters, Brandi (Steve) Morales of ID, and Patricia Rule; mother of his children, Becca of ND; best friends the Peters family of ND and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peggy and Gary Gibson, Dempsey and Paula Stephens, and Eddie.
