Dolores E. (Bolstad) Olson, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Born on April 18, 1929, in Fairdale, North Dakota, to Anna (Gilbertson) Bolstad and Alex Bolstad, Dolores grew up with a strong sense of family and responsibility that would guide her throughout her life. After spending a brief period teaching, she embraced the role of a devoted farm wife—a calling that defined much of her life’s work. Her dedication to the land and to her family was unwavering, and she poured her energy into both with strength and grace.
Dolores married Donald D. Olson on November 12, 1949, at St. Olaf Church in Fairdale. She shared many years of partnership with him until his passing. Following his stroke, she became his full-time caretaker, embodying selflessness and love in every moment of their journey together.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Janelle (Rodney) Holth and Lucinda (Gary) Haug; her son Donald (Mary Jean) Olson; her sister LaVonne (Richard) Johnson; her brother-in-law Jim (Kathie) Olson; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Alex; her husband Donald D. Olson; two brothers; two sisters; and her granddaughter Jennifer (Holth) Winkels.
Dolores had a gift for cooking that brought people together. Whether preparing hearty meals for those working on the farm or baking treats that became family favorites, she found joy in nourishing others. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals and the laughter of loved ones gathered around the table.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
Dolores’s legacy is one of devotion—to her family and to the countless lives she touched through simple acts of care and kindness. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
