Grand Forks

Dorothy Amundson, 86, passed away on April 7, 2026, under hospice care due to complications with pneumonia at Valley Senior Living on 42nd Street in Grand Forks.

Dorothy Lucille Dunlop was born May 4, 1939, the daughter of Norman and Ruth (Russell) Dunlop, the youngest of six children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith at Forest River and was an active member in the lnkster Presbyterian church until moving to Grand Forks in 2018. She graduated from Forest River High School in 1957 where she was a varsity girls basketball player all four years of high school. She met Tom Amundson in lnkster, ND, when roller-skating. They were united in marriage on April 6, 1958. Born to this family were their children: Tara, Tami, Tim and Todd.

Dorothy took great pleasure in her life as a farm wife. She was known for her outstanding caramel rolls, buns, and donuts and homemade meals. She was known for her sewing skills and would make her own clothes and her daughters' clothes which they wore through high school. She was always proud of her abundant vegetable garden. In the summer and fall you could find her in the field during harvest helping wherever needed. She worked at Norwest Bank in Grafton for over 26 years before Tom was diagnosed with ALS and she was his caregiver until his passing in 2009.

She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy along with her great grandchildren.

Left to mourn her passing are daughters: Tara (Terry) Nelson of Grand Forks, Tami (Tom) Noel of Moorhead, MN; sons: Tim of Forest River and Todd of lnkster; grandchildren: Heather (Dustin) Horswill of Helena, MT, David (Hayley) Nelson of Castle Rock, CO, Casey Skavlem of Grand Forks, ND, and Stephanie (David) Malone of West Fargo, ND; five great-grandchildren: Charlie and Hunter Horswill, Nash Nelson, Cameron and Walker Malone, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband, Tom, her parents and five brothers: Lloyd, James, Louis, Cecil, and Robert and granddaughter, Karlie Skavlem.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Inkster Cemetery following the service.

The family of Dorothy would like to extend a special thank you to the countless nurses and CNAs at Valley Senior Living on 42nd and Kylie, her hospice nurse, for providing wonderful compassionate care for our mom.
