Dorothy Hannah Lund, 96 passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia, Grand Forks, ND.
Dorothy Lund was born January 3, 1930, at the family home of R.P and Evelyn (Corcoran) Swangler. She attended St Michael’s Primary School and St James High School. As a teenager she was employed at First National Bank in East Grand Forks and sang on the radio.
On June 5,1949 Dorothy married Everett James Lund.
Being married to a farmer, she cooked daily meals for up to 15 hired men. Filled the station wagon with the kettles of hot dish, chili, tuna salad sandwiches, potatoe salad and whatever she had that day, delivered hot meals out to multiple fields being worked so the men could keep going. She was also the parts runner all over the ND and MN. She also enjoyed growing flowers and arranging them for the Grand Forks County Fair.
Dorothy loved to dance at the Legion in East Grand Forks, she never missed a week when Cathy Erickson Band played or The One Man Band (Joe Schmidt). Many waltz, polka and all types of music as long as she had a man to dance with. Dorothy used to say: ‘Get up and dance, kick up her heels and give them something to talk about’. Dorothy and Jim had many parties in the front porch with friends listening to music and dancing. She was a great seamstress and made many dresses for Diana and Pam. Enjoyed gardening and canning. She also enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and watching the Minnesota Twins baseball.
Even to the end Dorothy was always on top of everything, her mind stayed sharp. She always talked about her 4 grandchildren whom she loved dearly and when the 3 great-grandchildren came to visit (Alyssa, Beau, Sloane), they always put a smile on her face and cherished the times of laughter with them. When grand kids were at the farm, Mom showed them how to play golf, taught them how to use the weed whacker, while she mowed the grass. Everyone shared special moments of putting puzzles together as a family. Mom also loved just seeing and watching the grandkids running around the farm, enjoying the freedom, getting dirty, doing things their parents didn’t allow and Grandma always cleaning them up and we all had the best food a grandma could make. Orange Jello with mandarin oranges mixed in with whipped cream topping was the grandkids favorite. Special times with grandma watching many movies in her bedroom. Dorothy had a big smile on her face when the great grandkids pushed her down the hallway in her wheelchair. All enjoyed the time well spent with their grandma.
She is survived by her children: Diana Turner Denver, CO, Pam Lund Albuquerque, NM, Jamie Lund Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Lora (Kevin) Davidson, John Johansmann, Ryan Turner, Michael Lund (Megan) and 3 great-grandchildren; Alyssa and Beau Davidson, Sloane Lund; sister Ann (John) Janusz; brothers, Frank Swangler, Edward (Carol) Swangler, Jerry (Yvonne) Swangler, and Richie (Cheryl) Swangler, Sister-in-law Joyce Julian and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Everett J Lund, her parents, Richard and Evelyn Swangler, her brothers: George, Joseph, James, and Michael, sisters: Iris Root, Marilyn Larson, and Rosemary Kennedy.
