Dorothy Farrell of Arvilla, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 75 due to complications of Lewy Body Dementia at her home surrounded by her husband under the care of HIA Hospice.
Dorothy was born on June 15, 1951, to Rossford and Marilyn Johnson in Park River, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Park River. Dorothy attended school in Park River, graduating in 1969, with honors. She was an excellent trumpet player and was part of two International Music Camp tours playing concerts in Europe.
Dorothy attended NDSU, majoring in Pharmacy and received her degree in May of 1974. During her college days, she also played trumpet in concert band, stage band, marching band and several quartets. Being in band was the highlight of her college days and she made many lasting friendships because of it.
Dorothy’s first job out of college was at Larimore Rexall Drug, where she met her future husband, Bill Farrell. They were married on April 7, 1978, and lived on a farm south of Larimore. In 1981, she purchased the drug store and it became Larimore Drug and Gift, which she operated until 2020.
Dorothy and Bill liked to travel and made many trips to Mexico, the Caribbean and Florida. She loved playing the piano, baking, bowling and some golf. Dorothy studied the bible as much as she could always picking out verses to write down.
Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Bill of Arvilla, ND; sister, Jeantte (Bill) Larson of Hoople, ND; brother, Russell (Cindy) Johnson of Hoople, ND; sister, Linnae (Jon) Norberg of Clear Lake, MN; brother-in-law, Mike Farrell of Hot Springs, AR; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Donna Farrell, sister-in-law, Barb Johnson, nephew, Don Greff and many aunts, uncles and friends.
Bill wishes to thank Maple View Memory Care for providing excellent home health care, for Sarah the director for her compassion and for Liz, her health care worker. Also, a big thank you to HIA Hospice for their assistance during the past few weeks and for Lynn, her hospice nurse, for being there when we needed her. Also, a special thanks to Karen Landman, for all the visits and sweet treats she brought.
