Dorothy I Schoen

Dorothy I. Schoen, age 100, died July 4, 2025, with her family by her side.

Dorothy Ilene Reynolds was born in Bemidji, MN on March 7, 1925, one of three children born to Robert and Rachel (Pray) Reynolds. She lived most of her young life in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Moorhead State Teacher’s College with majors in Music and English. Dorothy also completed some graduate work in music at the University of Minnesota. She came to Grand Forks to teach music for two years, where she met and married Bill Schoen in 1950. They had six children. Their first child died in infancy, but they were blessed with five more children: Bill Jr., Bob, Julie, Susy and Katy.

Dorothy had a beautiful singing voice and stayed active in music throughout her life. She taught piano lessons for over 25 years and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a national music society, Thursday Music Club and PEO Chapter AY. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Robert and Rachel Reynolds; siblings, Minerva Bennett and Dr. Maynard Reynolds.

Surviving family members include sons: Bill (Bev) of Grand Forks, ND, Bob (Gabby) of Tallahassee, FL; daughters: Julie (Don) Lucht of Enon, OH, Susan (Steve) Griffin of Grand Forks, ND and Katy Schoen (Bryan Klipfel) of Bismarck, ND; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces.

Family and friends helped Dorothy celebrate her 100th birthday in March. Dorothy was a loving Mom and Grandma and will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM at Amundson Funeral Home on Friday, July 11th, 2025. Visitation will take place at 12:00PM, one hour prior to the service.
