Rogers, Minnesota

Dwight John Wurzbacher, lovingly known as “Wiz,” age 84, of Mentor and Rogers, MN, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026.

Dwight was born on July 24, 1941, in Grand Forks, ND, to James and Deloris (Peterson) Wurzbacher. He grew up in East Grand Forks, MN, where he graduated from Central High School in 1959. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic from 1959 to 1963.

On November 4, 1961, Dwight married Jean Fontaine. Together they shared more than 64 years of devoted marriage, building a life grounded in love, family, and partnership.

Dwight made his home in Grand Forks, ND, where he dedicated 40 years of service to the City of Grand Forks as Superintendent of Water Distribution and Maintenance. He was deeply respected for his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. After retiring, Dwight fulfilled a lifelong dream by building the cabin on Maple Lake in Mentor, MN, where he and Jean spent countless cherished years enjoying lake life and the peaceful surroundings he loved so much.

Dwight had a passion for classic cars, the outdoors, and caring for his home and yard. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and taking rides around the lake. He especially treasured sunrises and sunsets over Maple Lake, often while birdwatching. He loved 1950’s music, classic movies, concerts, and car shows, and valued time spent with his closest friends, including Bob Rynestad and Joe Chaput. He also shared a special bond with Harley, a beloved dog who brought him great joy. Above all, Dwight cherished family gatherings, holidays, and the everyday moments spent with Jean and his family.

Dwight will be remembered as a generous, loving, humble, and compassionate man. He was selfless, supportive, respectful, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His steady presence, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his children, Mike (Shelly) Wurzbacher of Grand Forks, ND; Paul Wurzbacher (Jennifer Ryan) of Chandler, AZ; Pam Hoover of Coon Rapids, MN; and Julie Bakken of Hanover, MN; his grandchildren, Matt, Nate, Tyler (Amber), Chase, Ryder (Steph), Josh, Jade (Taylor), Kenzie (Ben), and Addie; his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jaxon, and Nellie; his siblings, Donald (Susan) Wurzbacher, Charles (Colleen) Wurzbacher, Steve Wurzbacher, and Mark (Kim) Wurzbacher; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Deloris Wurzbacher.

Dwight’s greatest joy was his family, and his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in all who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Services will be held in May at Amundson Funeral Home, with burial and a celebration of life to follow. Further details will be shared.
