Edward James Rerick

Feb 15, 1936 — Sep 4, 2026

Grand Forks, North Dakota

Edward James Rerick was born February 15, 1936, in Grand Forks, ND to Jacob and Agnes Rerick. Ed’s parents were born in Odessa, Russia. He was the youngest of six children and known to some as “Little Eddie.” Ed graduated from St James High School in 1954. He was proud of his “All City” award in football. Ed met the love of his life, Evelyn June Belk, at St James.

After high school he joined the Navy in 1956. He was a Gunners Mate on the USS Missouri.

Ed married Evelyn June Belk on January 25, 1958. Together they had four children. Ed loved his children and grandchildren and made sure they all knew it. Loving his wife and demonstrating it did not go unnoticed. It was a beautiful example of a life well lived.

Ed scheduled and coordinated an annual fishing trip that lasted 55 years. It started out as a trip for him and his sons and was later extended to his grandsons, other family members and a few select special people in his life.

With his daughter he had a traditional Christmas shopping trip to shop for Evie’s gift. This included shopping and dinner, which took place annually for over 50 years. Even during the height of COVID restrictions, they ordered take out, sat at opposite ends of the dining table, and shopped online.

Ed loved playing cards and hosted Friday Night Poker games during the winter months. He enjoyed cards with his children and grandchildren, all of whom learned to play a variety of games, including 52 card pick up! Eddie played many rounds of golf with his brothers, sons, and grandchildren. He was an average bowler, on a league for years at Red Ray Lanes. He retired from American Federal in 1998. We don’t’ remember a time he didn’t talk about retiring! Evie kept him busier than work. He did all the grocery shopping, going to all the stores and clipping coupons to get the best deals. Ed was a conversationalist; he could visit with anyone. He liked to wheel and deal, buying and selling, never taking the original offer.

During the summer they camped at Maple Lake. He wasn’t much of a camping fan, but he did it for decades because he loved Evie, and she loved camping and the lake. He and Evie traveled to Arizona during the winter. He spent his time hanging with his grandchildren, golfing with his friends and grandson and trying to get that all elusive hole in one.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Jacob. His brothers George, Joe, Ray and Jacob, and his sister Mary.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn and his children: Mark (Rhonda) Rerick, Lee Anne (Randal Severson) Rerick, David (Shelly) Rerick, Daniel (Barbie) Rerick. His grandchildren: Jessica, Jacob, Hailey, Issac, Charles, Franklin, Peter, Noah Bella, and Kaitlyn. His great grandchildren: Everly, Ariella, Bryan, Jade, and Mikah.
