Esther M. Brokke

Esther M. Brokke, age 96, of Grand Forks, died Sunday, August 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota followed by a Prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at the East Walle Lutheran Cemetery.

Esther Marion Magenau was born June 5, 1929, to Carl and Rosie (Miller) Magenau in Hamilton, North Dakota. Esther attended a rural school in Hamilton. In her early years, she worked with her uncle in Iowa. On February 14, 1954, Esther was united in marriage to Raymond Brokke Sr. in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Together, they were blessed with four sons. Esther was the heart of her home, dedicating herself to being a loving and supportive wife and mother to her family. Esther was a homemaker and worked to help others in their homes.

Esther was known for her bright smile that could light up any room. She offered her family unconditional love and support and always seemed to know exactly what to say and do in any situation. Her selflessness and caring nature made her a confidante to many. She found joy in simple moments like sharing laughter and stories over cups of tea. Esther grew beautiful flowers and loved gardening. She would always make healthy, fresh fruit and vegetable dishes for her family. Esther’s gregarious spirit will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Esther is survived by her sons, Darwin (Donna) Brokke of Devils Lake, ND, Gary (Janice) Brokke of Mission, TX, Lonnie (Mary) Brokke of Roseville, MN, and Raymond Jr. (Becky) Brokke of Orlando, FL; 7 grandchildren, Danielle Brokke, Deidra Brokke, Nicholas (Erin) Brokke, Cassie (Jeff) Yentes, Katy Brokke, Kerri (Paul) Tripp, and Damond (Courtney) Brokke; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, Carl and Rosie; brothers, Arnold Magenau and Robert Magenau; and sister, Elsie Ferch.
