Eugene "Geno" Magalong

It is with profound sadness that we share that Eugene V. Magalong (67) passed away peacefully on August 24, 2021, in Emerado, North Dakota. He is preceded in death by his father, Felix L. Magalong. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years Janelle L. Magalong and his mother Adoracion V. Magalong. Also surviving Eugene are his five children, Damien, Darian, Marcus, Kohl from California, Jessica from North Dakota, and his grandchildren.

Eugene was born in California. He was the oldest of 10 children. In his youth he enjoyed playing basketball and football. His brothers remember epic basketball games in the family garage and football games in the backyard.  He played football in high school. As the oldest in the family, he introduced his siblings to Motown music and the joy of competitive sports. He enjoyed singing and playing the piano. He was a graduate of Hogan High School in Vallejo, California.

Eugene joined the United States Air Force in 1974. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1994. Eugene was proud of his service and the friendships that were developed along the way. He served selflessly in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and his distinctive accomplishments awarded him an Air Force Commendation Medal. 

Eugene retired in Gilby, North Dakota. After retirement from the Air Force, he kept busy holding various jobs and spending time with Janelle. In particular, he enjoyed working at the Youth Center, where young people affectionately referred to him as “Mr. Meyagi.” He remained active in sports by playing racquetball and bowling with his closest friends. He enjoyed playing his grand piano. He was a sought-after karaoke singer at different venues. A favorite song that he played on his piano and sang for Janelle and his family was Moon River.

A visitation will be held at Amundson Funeral Home on Tuesday September 7th from 5pm-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm. A Memorial of life will be held at Hope church on Wednesday September 8th at 2pm. The family is planning a memorial service in the San Francisco Bay Area at a future date. We will love and miss Eugene forever, but we are at peace knowing he is in a place where pain and sorrow are no more.
