Evelyn Regina Slominski, 92, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on January 2 at Valley Senior Living Woodside Village under the compassionate care of HIA Hospice.

Evelyn was born at home on July 4, 1933, in Warsaw, ND, to John and Regina (Skibitski) Mesheske. She attended Warsaw Catholic School and St. James High School in Grand Forks and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.

On October 16, 1951, Evelyn married Stephen T. Slominski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. The couple made their home on the family farm in Turtle River Township, where Evelyn tended a large and bountiful garden. She enjoyed baking, canning, sewing, and crafting. Evelyn and Steve loved dancing at Warsaw Hall and shared many adventures together, traveling to Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Europe, and numerous favorite fishing destinations. As their grandchildren grew and moved across the country, they cherished opportunities to visit throughout the United States. They especially enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ, for more than 40 years, surrounded by family and close friends.

Evelyn took great pride in her lively personality and often joked that she had “the gift of gab.” She will be fondly remembered for her humor, her love for her family, and her enjoyment of speaking Polish with friends.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Jackie (Mitch) Holter of Fargo, ND; Shelly (Calvin) Pecka of East Grand Forks, MN; and Joel (Susan) Slominski of rural Ardoch, ND. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Stacey (Matt) Schultz, Brian Slominski, Cary (Hannah) Slominski, Greg (Andrea) Slominski, Tina (Oscar) Betancourt, Tamera (Steve) Tolly, Michelle (Ryan) Klobassa, Janelle Holter, Jason (Heather) Pecka, Brad (Kirsten) Pecka, Nicole Pecka (Kyle Knutson), Ashley (Dustin) Anderson, and Callie (Travis) Johnson; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen T. Slominski; her son, Douglas S. Slominski; her sisters, LaVerne (Lee) Grovum and Marlene (George) Gratton; her parents, John and Regina Mesheske; her grandparents, Victor and Julia (Dombeck) Skibitski and Frank and Veronica (Tibiatowski) Mesheske; and her in-laws, William and Mary (Ginter) Slominski.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Evelyn’s family and friends for their kindness, love, and support throughout the years.
