Gary Bergstrom, 75 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Friday, January 26, 2024, at his home.
Gary was born on May 24, 1948, the son of Orlean and Loraine (Hendrickson) Bergstrom in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks, graduating from Grand Forks Central in 1966. Gary then attended Wahpeton School of Science, receiving an associate degree in drafting. He accepted a position with Bell Labs in Naperville, Illinois.
Gary was drafted in the United States Army in December of 1969. He received his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He continued to serve until his father’s death, when he received a humanitarian honorable discharge in November of 1971. After his return, Gary worked various construction jobs until he started Bergstrom Drywall in the early seventies.
Gary was united in marriage to Dale Ross in July of 1975 in Montague, Massachusetts. They made their home in Grand Forks. Throughout the years Gary continued to grow his business. He loved spending time outdoors canoeing and camping with his family.
He would eventually meet Janet Clark and they were married on July 4, 2004, in Grand Forks.
After his retirement, in May of 2014, Gary stayed busy with many projects and even remodeled his home. Gary enjoyed cooking and baking. He had numerous cookbooks and especially enjoyed cooking Mexican food and baking various types of bread. He loved the garden, walking his dogs and spending time at the lake. The time he cherished most, was time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Janet Clark; children, Jennifer (Scott) Bond, Carey (Bill) Burbeck, Matthew Bergstrom, Eric (Raine) Rud and Desiree Clark; eleven grandchildren, Eric, Alexander, Nila, Madeline, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Elliot, Callan, Brynlee, Melina and Remy; sister, Linda (John) Lund; brother-in-law, Garry Bjelde; numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harlan Bergstrom, twin sisters, Carol Bjelde and Cheryl Bergstrom.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
