Gary Robert Campbell

Gary R. Campbell, 76 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Gary was born on February 10, 1950, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Anderson) Campbell in Gary, Indiana. He was raised and educated in Rockford, Illinois, graduating from high school in 1968. Gary enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and served until 1973 when he received an honorable discharge.

Gary moved to Grand Forks after the military and attended UND. He married Maggie Bruggman in 1978, and they made their home in Grand Forks where they raised their son, Robert. After several years of marriage, they divorced. Gary worked in the retail and restaurant industry throughout his life.

Gary collected stamps, coins, baseball cards and books. He enjoyed watching the classic shows and more recent ones also on the tv. Gary also was an avid Chicago sports fan, following all the Chicago sport teams.

Gary is survived by his son, Robert Campbell of Grand Forks, ND; sister, Lori Merchie of Milan, IL and a niece, Kelly Merchie of Milan, IL.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bethesda Crossing Chapel, Valley Eldercare (Columbia). Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bethesda Crossing Chapel, Valley Eldercare (Columbia).
