Hilda Irene Fleming was born in Olmstead, ND on February 19, 1932 to Mabel and Fred Fleming. She attended schools in Egeland and Rocklake graduating in 1950.

Hilda lost her father at 12 years of age. Times were very difficult for the family after his death. Hilda met Norman, her husband of 53 years in 1946 and they were married on September 29, 1950. They moved to Camp Rucker, Alabama as Norman was a member of the National Guard.  While there, they shared living quarters with two other couples, all sharing the same kitchen and bathroom with no air conditioning. After Norman's discharge they returned to the family farm, where they remained until moving to Rocklake in 1990.  Hilda remained there until moving to assisted living at Parkview in Rolla in November 2018, and then to Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks in June 2019.

Hilda was an active member of All Nations Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.  She volunteered many hours of service there and also with the Rocklake Senior Citizens.  She also enjoyed serving on the local election board.

Hilda was very active on the family farm and always enjoyed telling people that they had purchased their home at the Minot State Fair in 1967.  She also enjoyed helping friends and family with their painting chores.  She did extensive gardening and canning and was an excellent cook.  There was always room for more at the family table.

She was very thankful for the many years they were able to travel to Arizona and the good times they had square dancing.  Other activities she enjoyed included bus tours, listening to Charlie Pride music, card playing, baking, quilting, the casino, collecting antiques, and dolls for her Granddaughters.  She also enjoyed going to musical events and school activities as well as watching the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Hilda is survived by daughters, Alinda (James) Bareksten from Blaine, MN, Robin (Steve) Held from Longmont, CO; and sister, Marie (Ken) Mein from Kenmare, WA; Seven grandchildren, Corey (Beth) Bareksten, Ross (Jennifer) Bareksten, Lance (Karri) Bareksten, Kalee Sherlock (Warren Barber), Shannon O'Brien (Sara Lill),  Hovi (Brock) Mitchell, & Ryleigh O'Brien (Steven Aguilar) & several great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; her brother, Ivan and his fiancée, Jean Weller.
