Jacob Ryan Luney, age 39, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026.

Jacob was born on December 26, 1986, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Ken and Lori Luney. He was a beloved son and a cherished friend to many.

Jake graduated from Red River High School in Grand Forks. He then attended Northwest Community and Technical College, where he earned an associate degree in Business Management and was named to the President’s List. He continued his education through online classes in sales and marketing at Bemidji State University.

Those who knew Jake will remember him for his personality, kindness, generosity, and, most of all, his smile and infectious laugh. He loved reading and was an avid sports enthusiast, participating in several fantasy football leagues. The Minnesota Vikings and Fighting Sioux were always among the teams he loved most.

Jake loved nature and often enjoyed solo hiking, climbing some of the highest peaks with his beloved dog, Wally, who was a very special part of his life. Some of his favorite places were Yellowstone, the Black Hills, and the Badlands.

Jake was preceded in death by his Uncle Dan Luney, Grandparents John and Dorothy Luney, Bill and Colleen Grassel. He is survived by his parents Ken and Lori Luney, Many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Jacob will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family and friends, and the love he gave will never be forgotten.

Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
