James "Jim" L. Bechtold

James "Jim" L. Bechtold, passed away on June 1, 2025, in Grand Forks, ND, at the age of 74.

Born on November 4, 1950, in Minot, ND, to Eldean and Minnie (Newman) Bechtold. Growing up in Minot, Jim developed a fascination for automobiles from a young age. He honed his skills through trade schools in Bismarck, ND, and Glasgow, MT, where he acquired the knowledge that would carry him through his career. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner and operator of Country Classic’s Car Sales, a business he cherished deeply.

Jim was known for his incredible talent in tinkering with old cars, often seen bringing new life to vintage vehicles, a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. His love for automobiles was only matched by his devotion to his family. He spent many joyous moments with his loved ones, cherishing family events and the simple delights of life together.

For 51 beautiful years, Jim shared his life with his cherished companion, Jan Cobban. Their bond was a testament to their love and partnership, which endured through all of life's seasons. Together, they raised their only child, Shannon, a proud accomplishment that brought immense joy to Jim’s life.

Jim will be remembered not only for his passion for classic cars but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to those around him. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward his values and love for life.

Jim is survived by his life companion, Jan Cobban; daughter, Shannon (Chris Littlejohn) Fennell; granddaughters: Shae (Brandon Pitts) Fennell, Katelyn (Wyatt) White, Alexis Fennell; great grandchildren: Pressley, Evaleah, Dawson and Eloise; siblings: Kevin (Denise) Bechtold, Gloria (Steve Harpestad) Cameron, Virginia Copeland, Sheila (Reggie) Engh and Coleen Rist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldean and Minnie Bechtold; brothers: Lynn and Morris Bechtold; brothers in law: Bob Rist and Don Copeland; nephew, Chad Bechtold; nieces: Valerie Copeland and Tina Bechtold.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
