James (Jim) P. Steckler, 70 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Jim was born on August 26, 1955, the son of Joseph and Mary (Moran) Steckler in Bismarck, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Mandan, North Dakota until 1964, when his family moved to Grand Forks. He graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1973.

Jim attended UND for two years and then moved to Rochester, Minnesota. He continued his education at the Rochester Community and Technical College where he completed a two-year degree in Computer Information Systems. He started his career in the computer industry with Unisys, and then Sperry Corporation which allowed him to travel all over the world for his work, he visited every continent except for Antarctica. He later took a position in cyber security with West Fargo Bank in St. Paul, Minnesota. He spent most of his adult life in St. Paul, until moving back to Grand Forks in 2014 to be closer to some of his family. Jim had been diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2005 and moved into Valley Senior Living on 42nd in 2014 to receive the excellent care and support he needed as the disease progressed.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, building and fixing computers, spending time with friends, and following his favorite Minnesota sport teams.

Jim is survived by his siblings, Peter Steckler, Mary Jo (Ken) Schill, Michael (Randi) Steckler, Steve Steckler and Susan (Jim) Thornton; special cousin, Del Steckler; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sisters-in-law, Jane Steckler and Beverly Steckler.

Visitation will be held from noon-1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Havig-Heen Chapel, Valley Senior Living on 42nd, Grand Forks, North Dakota. An interment service will follow at Calvary Cemetery North in Grand Forks.
