Janice L. Sauer

Janice L. Sauer, 86, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Valley Senior Living on 42nd.

Janice Lee Leeson was born December 16, 1938, in Larimore, ND, the daughter of Walter “Red” and Irene (Kemnitz) Leeson. The family lived in several places in Minnesota and North Dakota, eventually settling in Fargo, ND where Janice graduated from high school in 1956.

Janice married Elwood Sauer on November 18, 1956, in Grand Forks. They lived in Emerado, ND. Janice worked for many years as a bookkeeper and office manager for Bradshaw Gravel until 1972. She spent the next number of years devoting herself to raising her son, Brett and helping on the family farm. Janice later returned to work for Nodak Insurance and Farm Bureau until her retirement in 2015. Elwood Sauer passed away December 29, 2002.

Janice loved to travel! She started out going on road trips all over the United States with Elwood and Brett in a van and before her traveling was done she visited countries too numerous to mention. She loved to camp and fish, even winning a master angler award! She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church and also a member of the Harmony Homemakers and a decorative paint club.

Janice is survived by her son, Brett (Renae) Sauer, Emerado, ND; grandchildren, Roman Sauer, Chelsea Sauer, both of Emerado, ND, and Bailey Willis, Fargo, ND; great grandson, Tristan Willis: siblings, Gary (Wende) Larsen, Lacy, WA, Jerry (Paula) Leeson, Minot,ND, Linda (Ron) Weber, Mackinaw, IL, Lynn (Dan) Newman, Great Falls, MT, Sandy Straight, Las Vegas, NV, Lori (Bob) Wyatt, Great Falls, MT, and Ronnie Leeson, Great Falls, MT; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; and siblings Joan Gerardi and LaVonne Childers.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Prairie Cemetery, Emerado, ND.
