Jeffrey "Jeff" J. Chappell, age 64, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2025, at Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025, at White Stone Hill Cemetery north of Gwinner, North Dakota.
Jeffrey Jon Chappell was born November 27, 1961, to Wallace and Darleen (Vogts) Chappell at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota. He attended elementary school in Dickey and Marion, and graduated from LaMoure High School with the class of 1980. He furthered his education and took one quarter of courses at North Dakota State University. Jeff returned to the farm where he worked with his father and brother and managed the Grand Rapids elevator. Jeff eventually went on to work in road construction and various agricultural jobs before settling in Grand Forks in 1997, where he dedicated 23 years to Simplot Ag Division. In 2024, he retired from Hebron Brick. On July 10, 1987, Jeff was united in marriage to Gwen LaDean Pithey; together they were blessed with two children, Ryan Jon and Abby Esther Ann.
Jeff enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching Fighting Sioux sporting events, and playing cards. An avid book reader, he always kept you on your toes and kept conversations interesting by sharing his knowledge of “useless” information that usually sparked laughter and a grin. He also enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was off-roading on a new path, hunting, or fishing; he looked forward to the adventure and memories. His soft heart for his grandchildren and family will always be remembered and deeply missed.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gwen Chappell; son, Ryan (Aliah) Chappell; daughter, Abby Chappell; grandsons, Jaxton and Ovy Chappell; brother, Troy (Barb) Chappell; nephew, Tyler (Josie) Chappell and family; niece, Heather (Collin) Strehlow and family; in-laws, Gail (Barry) Olson, Hal Pithey, Carmen Klein, Randy (Sue) Pithey, Doneen (Thomas) Larson; nieces and nephews, Seth (Jeffery Wilson) Olson; Erin (Danny) Navarro and family; Tyne (Brent Corrigan) Olson and family; Haley (Ryan) Winfield and family; Kimberly (Justin) Pithey-Pede and family; Trevor (Jessica) Klein and family; Justin (Mindy) Klein; Brandon Klein; Chris Siedschlag; Tessa (Justin) Hagen; and Caitlin (Scott) Olson and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Darleen; sister, Brenda; his grandparents, John Earle and Amanda (Orness) Chappell; Benjamin and Esther (Osthoff) Vogts; father- and mother-in-law, Rodney and Connie (Carlson) Pithey; brother-in-law, Mark Klein; and nephew, Shane Olson.
