Moen, 78, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died peacefully with her husband of 59 years by her side, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks. Jewel was born on August 28, 1944, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Forest and Amelia (Klein) Elofson. As a child, she attended school in Thief River Falls before she and her family moved to Grand Forks. Jewel graduated from Grand Forks Central in 1962. On August 9, 1963, Jewel was united in marriage to David A. Moen in Grand Forks. Following their marriage, Jewel worked at UND to help support the couple while David was busy earning his degree and playing hockey. The couple soon began their family. Along with raising her children, Jewel owned and operated a children’s clothing store for several years. Jewel’s most proud accomplishment was her family. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother and would do anything for anyone. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a huge UND hockey fan (Go Sioux!). Jewel was a long-time member of Sharon Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Valley Senior Living on Columbia or Sharon Lutheran Church. Survivors include, her husband of 59 years, David; daughter, Kim (Keith) Litke of Box Elder, SD; son, Brent (Andrea) Moen of Eden Prairie, MN; 2 brothers; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
