Joanne Rae Meisner

Joanne Meisner, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, North Dakota. She was born June 27, 1934, and lived most of her life in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Joanne’s life was marked by love, dedication and creativity. She married the love of her life, Allan Meisner, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership on May 2, 1954. Together, along with special friend and co-owner, Catherine (Kay) Oliver, they ran the Golden Hour Restaurant. They also owned and managed several real estate properties in Grand Forks.

In addition, Joanne was a nurturing mother to her five children: son, Allan (Christopher Watson) Meisner, Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Cathy (Engen) Eckmann, Fargo, ND; son, Bruce Meisner, Grand Forks, ND; daughter, Lori (Terry) Sannes, Grand Forks, ND; and son, Jon Meisner, Zimmerman, MN. She was the very proud grandmother to Kristin (Nathanael) Lilly, Woodbury, MN; Kyle Meisner, Plymouth, MN; Jill (Brent) Williams, West Fargo, ND; Brean (Dennis) Leppell, Naperville, IL; Katie (John) Schmidt, Plainfield, IL; Jenny (Chris) Anderson, West Fargo, ND; Trisha Sannes, Fargo, ND ; Traci Sannes, West Fargo, ND; twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She will also be missed by sisters-in-law, Marilyn Madson, Pat Fairweather and her nieces and nephews.

Joanne’s creativity and skill shone in the many intricately hand knitted sweaters, blankets and toys she made for her family. A passionate gardener and avid reader, she enjoyed spending her days surrounded by nature and books. Joanne was also known for her exceptional seamstress and craft talents.

Joanne was a longtime member of United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks where she sang in the choir and participated in the life of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Lloyd and Lyda Fairweather; her brother, David Fairweather; and her daughter in laws, JoAnn Meisner and Char Meisner.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bethany On 42nd for their loving and amazing care.
