John Czapiewski

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away July 7, 2026 in Grand Forks surrounded by his family.

John F. Czapiewski was born March 20, 1949 in Grafton, ND; the son of the late Henry A. and Emily A. (Rogalla) Czapiewski. He grew up and attended school in Minto, graduating from Minto High School.

Following High School, he was drafted into the Army for the Vietnam War; when he returned to North Dakota, he continued serving in a medical unit of the Army Reserve in Grand Forks for 10 years, moved on to duty in the North Dakota National Guard, and then went on to serve in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. John proudly served in the Army for 22 years.

John met his wife, Nancy Nyberg when they both worked in the bakery at Wally’s in Grafton. They were married on October 7, 1972. John took in her two young children, Mike and Dana as his own. They later welcomed Darren to the family in 1973. John furthered his education at AVTI in East Grand Forks, MN. John worked at Pillsbury, Kmart, Walmart and the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center at UND, where he retired on May 1, 2015.

John loved the outdoors, gardening and tinkering in the shed with his different projects. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time camping and fishing at Golden Lake in Hatton, ND with his family. He always prioritized spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

John was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks.

John is survived by his wife Nancy Czapiewski; Grand Forks, children Michael Clark (Angie Gothberg) Grand Forks, ND, Dana (Troy) Schill, Grand Forks, ND and Darren (Claudia) Czapeiwski, Dickinson, ND, grandchildren Conner Gothberg, Madison Clark, Casey and Cassidy Schill and Lexi and Brooke Czapiewski, his in-laws, Ron (Marilyn) Nyberg, Grand Forks, John “Jackie” Nyberg, Grand Forks, Diane Nyberg, Grand Forks, and Greg (Patty) Nyberg, Williston; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry A. and Emily A. (Rogalla) Czapiewski, brother, Henry Czapiewski and in-laws, Tom Nyberg, Judy Wenlund, Richard and Mary Nelson, Mary (John) Nyberg and great nephew Michael Bullinger.

Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church.Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.The service will be lived streamed at: https://www.youtube.com/live/4SCFqetISbg?si=mYqR2prifhU5K5cX
