John Eugene Richards Sr.

John Eugene Richards Sr. was born May 23, 1944, in Upland, California, to Frank and Mary Richards.

John was a man of faith and integrity. He lived his life in service to the Lord and his family.
During his young years he was very active in the Boy Scouts, earning Eagle Scout. His Eagle Scout award was always a huge sense of pride for him.

In 1962, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. John was always proud of his service to the United States, and he would share stories about his time in the service as military police protecting the bombers during war time. He received the soldier of the year award while serving in the national guard.

After his time in the service, John worked for RC Cola, L.A. Anderson Construction, and he started his own company, Commercial Signs, INC. Later, he worked for A & L Siding. John met and married the love of his life Edie Anderson on August 29, 1964. Together they raised and loved their four children.

John liked drawing and painting, camping, day trips with his family and went on the honor flight to Washington DC. John’s greatest accomplishments was always his family. Family was everything to him, giving his love and time to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Edie, children: Pam Burkes, Joanne (Dan) Barstad, John (Mary) Richards, Tori (Victor) Ramirez; grandchildren: Brandi, Brandon, Brady, Ashley, Chris, Shaley, Justin, Jayce, Aiyanna, Kenya, Peyton, Dominic, Darious, Demetrius, Layla, Victor Jr., great grandchildren: Carter, Jocelyn, Janessa, Cecilia, Kelsie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Brittany Burkes, nephews Joseph and Jacob Hornback, Rob Richards, and niece Kathleen Pratt.

Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. 
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
