John Tweten, 94, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, with loved ones at his side.
John Tweten was born to Snare and Alice (Jenson) Tweten on March 23, 1931. John was united in marriage to Mary E Schindler on February 19, 1965, sharing just over 60 years of marriage.
John was drafted into the army in the 1950s and served in Korea from 1953 to 1954 as a corporal in the 74th engineering heavy equipment company.
He made a career as a local independent truck driver starting in the early 1960s and working for Carol Lebacken trucking for over 10 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary Tweten, daughter Judy (Jeff Chrisp) Tweten, Livermore, CA; stepdaughter Rosie (Ron) Cunningham, Twin Valley, MN; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Donald Tweten, Russel Tweten, Andrew Tweten and Ole Tweten.
Private visitation and burial will be held. Interment: St. Olaf - Americus Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
Please join us in honoring the life of John Tweten, who brought joy to all who knew him. John was an avid car racing fan, attending races faithfully since his teenage years. His passion for the sport and his warm spirit touched many in the racing community.
A family led Celebration of Life will be held on June 24th at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. All friends and family are welcome to attend and share memories. Details to be announced at a later date.
