Judith Ann (Carlson) Lokensgard, 84, passed away on August 30th, 2021 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.

On August 11th, 1937 Judy was born to Clarence and Marie (Sletten) Carlson in Willmar, MN.  Judy was baptized and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  She graduated from Willmar High School in 1955, and St. Olaf College in 1959 with a degree in Library Science.  She worked as a school librarian in St. Peter, MN and Eau Claire, WI until 1962 when she married Michael Lokensgard. They made their home in Mankato, MN where Judy worked in the MSU- Mankato (formerly Mankato State College) library.  In 1962 Mike and Judy joined Christ the King Lutheran Church where they remained lifelong members.  Following the birth of their first child, Judy resigned her professional work to raise their children.

Judy made sure her children had access to all that life had to offer – piano lessons, band lessons, sports opportunities, swimming lessons, etc.  As her children were finishing high school, she returned to the work-force to help provide a college education for each.

Judy was an accomplished musician - playing the piano, organ, and clarinet.  She accompanied her children’s church choirs and in later years played in the church Bell Choir and the Bell Quartet.  A proud moment for her was the summer of 1985 when each of her family members was able to play their respective band instrument in the Mankato Municipal Band.

Judy cherished family time.  And although adventure was not her inborn passion, because of her devotion to her family, she grew to appreciate the adventures of camping, canoeing, hiking, and downhill skiing with her family.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and former husband.  She is survived by her son, Rolf (Mia) Lokensgard, Wayzata, MN, daughter, Karin (David) Lokensgard Pierce, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren:  Megan Lokensgard, Maddeline Lokensgard, Ryan Lokensgard, Josh (Lauren) Pierce, Daniel Pierce; brother, John (Sue) Carlson, Oceanside, CA and many extended relatives.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the excellent care Judy received while living independently at the Good Samaritan Heritage Grove Oaks Building in East Grand Forks, MN, and later at Valley Sr. Living on 42nd - Wheatland Terrace and Woodside Village Heartland Neighborhood.  Memorials are preferred to Good Samaritan, Valley Sr. Living, or a charity of your choice.
