Kathleen “Kathy” Norstebon, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia.

Kathleen Permelia Larson was born on February 5, 1930, in Abercrombie, ND to Bernerd and Maria Larson. She lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and heartfelt devotion to her family and community.

As the eldest of five children, Kathleen embraced the role of a loving and guiding figure early in life. She graduated from high school before pursuing her passion for nursing in Fargo, where she worked towards her nursing degree and began a career dedicated to caring for others. Kathleen married Willard Everett Norstebon, with whom she shared over six decades of partnership and companionship, and together they were blessed with two beloved children, Colette and Anders.

During her early married years, Kathleen shared a significant chapter of her life while stationed with her husband in San Antonio, Texas, before returning to Fargo and ultimately settling in Grand Forks in 1964. Her life journey touched many through her unwavering kindness, gentle demeanor, and selfless care.

Kathleen’s professional career was distinguished by her many years of service in healthcare. She began her work at Valley Memorial Homes and then devoted over twenty years to Tufte Manor, where her gentle and caring nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Upon retiring, she continued to embody her spirit of compassion through volunteering with hospice care and Comfort Keepers, providing comfort and solace to those in need during difficult times.

Known affectionately by family and friends as “Kathy,” Kathleen was a woman of warmth and grace. She delighted in cooking and baking, especially Scandinavian treats, cookies, and traditional lefse. An avid gardener, she lovingly tended to her flowers and found peace in nurturing her garden. Her interest in family genealogy reflected her deep appreciation for heritage and legacy, traveling twice to Norway, embracing the roots and stories of her ancestors.

Kathleen’s loving nature extended beyond her professional and personal pursuits. She cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. She was a longtime and devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where her faith and spirit inspired all who had the privilege to know her.
