Kathy Rae Jensen

August 31, 1959 — October 30, 2023

Kathy Rae Jensen , 64 of Grand Forks, ND, peacefully passed away on October 30, 2023.  Kathy, affectionately known as "Blackie," was the anchor of our family, embodying strength, kindness and unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, always showing love and care to those around her.

Kathy was born on August 31, 1959 in Norwalk, California, to Curtis Huus Sr. and Millie Vervalen.  She grew up in Orange County, CA and attended Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, CA.  Kathy’s father’s business in the painting and maintenance field instilled in her a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the industry.

She is survived by her cherished sons, Calvin, Jesse, and Josh Jensen, and her beloved daughters, Crystal Mendez and Brandy Nesheim. In addition, she is lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Scott Nesheim, and her brothers, Curtis Huus Jr., Tim Gonderman, Karry and Marty Frost. Her sisters, Cindy Huus Penman, Renae Frost, and Rowena Mutton, held a special place in Kathy's heart.  Along with her sister-in-laws/Aunties Maryann Hutton, Lori Al-Moshkhes, Jodi Neely as did her special close friend, Rodney Huus. She leaves behind a multitude of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kathy's parents, Curtis Huus Sr. , Millie Vervalen, and her oldest brother, Chuck Huus, precede her in death, their memories forever cherished.

After marrying Calvin Wesley Jensen, Kathy settled in California and Utah, the role of wife, mother, and homemaker.  Though Kathy and Calvin eventually divorced. Kathy’s close family friend Rodney Huus held a special place in her heart.

In her spare time, Kathy found solace in prayer and conversation with God.  Her strong faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ guided her actions, and she was always there for those in need, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or offer kind words of encouragement .  Kathy generous spirit extended beyond her family and friends, as she cared deeply for strangers and made sure no one left her house hungry. 

Kathy’s devotion to her faith led her to worship at Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. It was in this community that she found solace and shared love for God and her fellow worshippers.

Kathy’s hobbies revolved around loved ones. She treasured the time spent with her family, especially during holidays.  Kathy had a zest for life and enjoyed spreading joy wherever she went. Her compassionate nature drove her to look after the underdog and bring comfort to those who were sad.  Kathy’s heart was pure, and she found peace in connecting  with God through prayer.  

Kathy Rae Jensen will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith , kindness and love for her family and friends.  Her legacy of compassion and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
