Kathy R. Moncada, age 68, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends that will take place 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the American Legion Ballroom in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Kathy Renae Ostlund was born January 1, 1957, in Grand Forks, ND, to Phillip and Beverly (Teigland) Ostlund. Kathy was raised and attended school in East Grand Forks, MN, where she met and married Daniel Moncada. Later in life, she met her longtime partner, Charles “Chuck” Severson. In her earlier years, she worked as a caregiver at a nursing home, American Crystal Sugar, and then went into food service. Kathy used her love of cooking and baking to bring her family together. She was always experimenting in the kitchen, creating new dishes and desserts. One of her favorite things to do was to watch scary movies and eat popcorn with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed going to the lake and being with family and friends. Above all, she was always there for anyone who needed her.

Kathy is survived by her children, Chad Ostlund, Paula Moncada, Estella Sabin, all of Grand Forks, ND; Jeremiah (Melinda) Moncada of Gautier, MS; and Joseph Moncada of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Brianna, Mercades, Colton, and Shyanne, Dalton, Azayla, and Linkoln, Brianna, Lesha and Israel; great-grandchildren, Londyn, Ellie, Marlon, Aziannah, and Serenity; mother, Beverly Doss; siblings, Sherilyn (David) Sinkevich, Vickie (Dale) Zahradka, Phillip Jr. (Ann) Ostlund all of East Grand Forks, MN, and Geraldine Halvorson (Curt) of Grand Forks, ND, and Deborah Clark of Milan, TN; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Sippy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip; brother, James; longtime partner, Charles “Chuck” Severson; son-in-law, Shaun Sabin; paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
