Kristi L. Lafferty, age 58, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Kristi Lea Bergman was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 3, 1966. When Kristi was six months old, she and her twin sister Kari were adopted by Orvis and Lavonne (Hovet) Bergman. Kristi was raised and educated in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where she graduated from Central High School in 1985. She later attended Josef’s School of Hair before graduating, Kristi became a mother and devoted her time to raising her family in the Larimore and Grand Forks area. Kristi also dedicated over 30 years working at C&R Cleaners & Laundry.
Kristi cherished spending time with her family and friends, whether it was taking trips to the family cabin on Red Lake or over a game of pool and billiards; she always knew how to have a fun time, along with bringing smiles to others and endless laughter. An adventurer at heart, Kristi loved riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle. She recently took a memorable trip to the West Coast, where she experienced the ocean for the very first time. Kristi will be deeply missed but always remembered for the light she brought into the lives of others.
Kristi is survived by her children, Derek (Brooke) Fay and family of Otsego, MN, Miranda Balow of New Richmond, WI, and Jessica (Sam) Helgeson of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Gage Diehl, Wesley and Sunnie Helgeson; siblings, Kari (Christine Dvorak) Bergman, Carrie Kubes, and Todd Kubes; birth mother, Charlea Cottrell-Cox; and beloved bird child, Frankie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orvis and Lavonne; and grandparents, Kermit and Evelyn Hovet, and Evelyn Bergman.
