Lois M. Delmore, age 76, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Valley Senior Living Transitions Unit in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lois Marie Thompson was born April 10, 1949, in Maddock, North Dakota, to Bronald and Inga (Brenno) Thompson. Lois graduated from Oberon High School in 1967, following graduation she furthered her education at the University of North Dakota, where she studied English and earned her bachelor’s degree in education. Her dedication to teaching led her to Belcourt, North Dakota, where fate brought her together with Michael Delmore; they were united in marriage on June 4, 1978, in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 1979, Lois and Michael settled in Grand Forks, where they raised their son, Patrick.
Lois was known for her dedication, love, and tireless advocacy in social and political causes, especially in women’s rights causes, to better the world around her. She devoted over 40 years to education and retired in 2012. Lois also served for 24 years with the North Dakota State Legislature until her retirement in 2018. Lois was also on the board and involved in Women In Government, a national organization. Lois’s passion for making a difference touched many lives, and her legacy of advocacy and compassion will be deeply treasured.
Lois was a lover of adventures; she cherished traveling with her family to places such as Norway, Ireland, Boston, and San Diego. These journeys brought joy and created memories that will be remembered always.
Lois is survived by her husband of 47 years, Michael Delmore; son, Patrick Delmore; grandchildren, Aiden and Aurora; brother, Mark (Sharla) Thompson; and sister, Audrey Moug.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bronald and Inga Thompson.
