Maurine "Toots" Hughes

Maurine was born on November 5, 1931, in Grand Forks, ND. To Ernest Schubert and Gladys Schubert, her parents.

She attended Belmont Elementary School and then onto Central High School. She played violin in the Central Orchestra for four years. After graduation from Central she attended Union Commercial College and Akers Business College.

On her birthday November5, 1956 she married Donald Hughes. Together they had two sons, she is survived by them. Timothy Hughes (Chris) and Patrick Hughes (Jane) and three grandsons, Patrick E Hughes, Jonathan Hughes and Tanner Hughes.

She worked at J.J.Newberries, Norby’s Department Store and then Target Stores to her retirement. She was a member of Royal Neighbors and did volunteer work with them for years, which she enjoyed very much.

A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 1:00pm, at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND. Visitation with the family will be held an hour prior to services, with refreshments to follow. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery North in Grand Forks.
