With his family surrounding him and a brief battle with cancer, Michael Brune, age 76, on December 24, 2023, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away. Born on May 16, 1947, in Bemidji, Minnesota, Mike was a cherished husband, father (Pops), grandfather (GPa), and great-grandfather (Big Poppa).
Mike dedicated 22 years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force. While stationed at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, he met the love of his life, Eileen. They married on November 15, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Church in Levittown, Pennsylvania.
Mike was known for his amiable nature and warm-hearted personality. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease in his presence. His genuine kindness and friendly demeanor endeared him to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Mike dabbled in a variety of hobbies and interests, but his passions were hunting, fishing, stamp collecting, and UND hockey. Spending time in the great outdoors brought him a sense of peace. He especially treasured the moments shared with his family at Gull Lake.
Mike leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Eileen (Carlin) Brune, daughter MaryKatherine (Jason) Reid, son Shawn (Lisa) Brune, grandson Travis Brune, granddaughter Kylie Brune (Blake Laurin), great-grandsons Zeno and Kade Laurin. He is survived by siblings Mary Lee (William) Corrigan, Judy Ferry, Richard (Carol) Brune, Kris (Brian) Ross, and Jon (Rachel) Brune, a crew of much-loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Brune and Florine (Moody) Brune, and his brother Tom Brune.
In loving memory of Mike Brune, may his soul find eternal peace. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories of his love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
Mike’s family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley and the sixth floor nursing staff at Altru Hospital for the excellent care that he received while under their care.
