Michael “Mike” Wade Morgan, 64, of Thompson, ND, passed away at home on April 16, 2026 after a 7 year battle with corticobasal degenerative disease.
Mike was born to Richard and Joyce Morgan in Crookston, MN. He grew up in Thompson and graduated from Thompson High School in 1980. Later attending Crookston College and playing football. Mike had many life long friends and a knack for retelling their stories always with a grin.
In 1982, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Holien. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their two children, Alicia and Richard (Ricky). Following in his father’s footsteps, Mike proudly served as the manager of the Thompson Farmers Elevator from 1999 until 2019. He had a deep pride in his work and cherished the lasting relationships he built with the farmers he served.
Mike spent countless hours doing what he loved most: fishing, hunting, cheering on his children and grandchildren in all their activities and enjoying time at the lake with his family. Although his illness slowly limited his ability to fish or to hunt, he made sure his passion didn’t fade with him. He passed on that love to his children and grandchildren.
Mike was known for his humor, his quick wit, his stubborn strength, and his deep love for his family. His grandchildren considered him their #1 fan, and he never missed an opportunity to share just how proud he was of each of them.
Mike is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dale Holien; grandparents Ed and Marjorie Yanish; grandmother Irene Morgan and sister in law Vicki Holien.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children: Alicia (Jason) Schumacher and their children: Eli, Emma, and Lyla, and Ricky (Laura) Morgan and their children: Oliver, Everett, Edison, and Jack. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Joyce Morgan; siblings: Lana (John) Carlson, Scott (Jane) Morgan, Sandy (Scot Irlbeck) Crawford; brothers-in-law: Rodger (Julie) Holien, Mike Holien and Steve (Elizabeth) Holien; sister-in-law, Shirley (Leroy) Reitmeier; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal four-legged companion, Stella.
A Visitation will at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 form 5:00-7:00PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, with visitation continuing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Thompson City Cemetery.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who supported them throughout Mike’s illness, including family, friends, the Thompson Fire Department, HIA Hospice, Home Therapy Solutions, Speech Therapist Michelle, and the special in-home nurses and caretakers who helped keep Mike comfortable at home surrounded by those he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, Mike’s request was simple: take a kid fishing.
