Myrtle D. Austreng, age 86, of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Valley Senior Living Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
A Graveside Prayer Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Ness Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Mekinock, North Dakota.
Myrtle Delores Nelson was born April 16, 1939, to Alvin and Mabel “Lottie” Nelson. Myrtle was raised in Beltrami, Minnesota, where she also attended school. She was confirmed in the Christian faith at Varnes Lutheran Church in rural Fertile. During her working career, she worked in hospitality services and housekeeping at hotels. Myrtle was united in marriage to Leedale “Dale” Austreng; together, they were blessed with three children and raised their family in Grand Forks. They later divorced.
Myrtle was known for her hard work and dedication. In her early years, she enjoyed dancing. She looked forward to phone call visits from her family and sister, Dolly.
Myrtle is survived by her 2 sons and daughter; sisters, Daralis “Dolly” (Wally) Sept of Missoula, MT, Dorothy Kovar, and Darlene Sherman; and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Lottie Nelson; brothers, Alvin S., Selvin, Irvin, and Gerald Nelson; and sisters, Margaret Nelson and Geeneva Rector.
