Neil Hegg, 89, Grand Forks, and formerly of Thompson, North Dakota, died at home on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Neil Edward Hegg, the son of Norris and Edna (Sannes) Hegg, was born in Grand Forks on June 12, 1936. He attended school in a one room schoolhouse, and later at Crookston Agricultural College. Neil worked on a farm and for UND for many years.

Neil Hegg and Judith “Judy” Nefs were united in marriage on July 7, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in Reynolds, North Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks and later moved to Thompson where they lived and farmed until Neil retired from farming in 2002. They moved back to Grand Forks in 2020.

Neil served as the Walle Lutheran Church treasurer for many years. He enjoyed working in his shop, building, fixing, and tinkering with all sorts of things. He enjoyed spending time at Big Turtle Lake, Minnesota for many years. Most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren and attending all of their events, regardless of weather conditions. He loved mowing and, in his retirement, he mowed for the Grand Forks School District.

Neil is survived by his wife Judy, Grand Forks, ND; sons, Mark (Cindy), Thompson, ND, Scott (Cindy), Thompson, ND, and Steve (Amy), Fargo, North Dakota; grandchildren, Michael, Josh, Jennifer, Jessica, Lindsey, Brady, and Jason; great-grandchildren, Ryder, Harlow, Lylah, Macy, Hallie, Cameron, Brooks, and Benson; sister-in-law, Darlyne Hegg, Grand Fork, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ronald and Earl, and a sister-in-law, Shirley.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Walle Lutheran Church, Rural Thompson, North Dakota. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm. Friday, November 21, 2025 with a time of Sharing Memories at 6:00 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Walle Lutheran Cemetery.
