Norma Jean Gjovik, age 95, was born on February 23, 1931, to John and Philipina (Remboldt) Muller in Gackle, North Dakota, where she spent her childhood.
She went St. Alexius Nursing School in Bismarck, North Dakota where she graduated with a degree as a pediatric nurse. She married Odd Gjovik on June 7, 1953. They resided in Bismarck and Norma worked as a nurse at St. Alexius Hospital until 1969, when they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. There she worked at Deaconess Hospital/United Hospital until her retirement after 40 successful years. One of her biggest accomplishments during her nursing career was taking the first pediatric patients from the Deaconess Hospital to the United Hospital. Norma was a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church in Grand Forks, where she was involved in bible studies with many close church families who she cherished. Norma enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafting, and doing word finds. She was known for her funny one liners and was a giving and caring person that would give to everyone and was a great role model. She loved and adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dog Boze.
Norma is survived by her 4 children Karoline (John) Jacobson, Mayville, ND; John (Kelly) Gjovik, La Palta, MD; Steve Gjovik, Grand Forks, ND; and Heather Gjovik, Grand Forks, ND. 4 grandchildren Lisa (Travis) Eernisse, Sioux Falls, SD; Josh (Lacey) Jacobson, Dickinson, ND; Kristopher Gjovik, Grand Forks, ND; and Ryan Crummy, Thief River Falls, MN; and 4 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Eernisse, Brielle Eerisse, Mason Jacobson, & Hannah Jacobson. Her many cherished church family, including her bible study ladies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Odd, Foster Daughter Brenda Hernandez, twin brother Norman Muller, and her Sister Rosie Weispfenning.
A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00am at Grace Baptist Church in Grand Forks, ND. Visitation with the family will be held and hour prior to services with a lunch to follow the service. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery (North) in Grand Forks, ND.
